First Test of a Delayed Manhattan Project?

What would the first test of the Manhattan Project have been like if it was delayed until the end of the war? Would it have taken place under more well-publicized conditions in an effort to head off accusations of program fraud and corruption, perhaps as an even bigger media event version of Operation Crossroads?

There was no good reason to delay the Trinity test. They needed to know if the design worked. After all, it was unsure whether Japan would surrender after two bombs, and devices of the Gadget type would have been used in further nuclear bombings. If there was a risk of the design resulting in a dirty bomb or a dud, it would be best to know beforehand.

This is assuming the program itself is delayed a few months.

Oh OK. In that case, I imagine the Soviet ambassador would have been invited to this show of force. I'm not sure Stalin would be intimidated though. He wasn't impressed at Potsdam, though that may have been because he didn't quite understand how powerful exactly a nuclear weapon could be. That said, he was sociopathic he wouldn't give a shit about losing one or two cities. His attitude will likely depend on his knowledge (or lack thereof) concerning the size of the USA's nuclear arsenal.
