Hi all,
Historically, the Weimar Republic had a proportional voting system.
That is to say, Germans vote for a party; and then the party gets X number of seats based on how it does. Compare this to the First Past the Post system, where regions get to vote, and whoever gets the majority of votes wins the seat. (I.E. America).
What are the effects? For one, this makes the minor bourgeoisie parties pretty much impossible.Likewise, the Nazis will be lucky to get any seats before 1928.
Optimistically, it means that the parties have to act more tactically; the SPD might end up leaning towards expanding beyond its worker base, while the DVP and DDP might be more assertive in wooing middle class voters. Pessimistically, such a system could give the Nazis an absolute majority in the Reichstag.
