Finland question

What would happen if Finland decided after they regained the borders they had in 39 to try and make peace with the Soviets? Would the Soviets take the deal? What would Germany do?

Germano-Finnish war. Even in late 1944, when writings were shining on the wall, Finns had to fight Germans to get them out of Finland.

What CG said. Finland was truly dependant on German supplies and food shipments. Most Finnish leaders, political and military, were quite ready to leave the Axis ship as soon as they saw the tide turn on the Eastern front. But it took some time before it was militarily feasible to make that decision, which eventually from the Finnish point of view was realized through the ruse that was the "Ryti-Ribbentrop Agreement" of June 1944. That personal, politically suicidal pledge by President Ryti to keep Finland in the war was made to keep the German aid flowing.

Recent research has shown that pledge was not really necessary in terms of securing German aid, but that it was made (and planned from the start to be broken, on the national level) is a testament to the precarious position the Finnish government thought they were in at the time. Finland would risk war with Germany only as a last ditch measure.

In 1941, the Soviets were fighting a war of national survival against Germany. Why wouldn't they accept a peace with Finland based on the pre-Winter War border.

I think the Germans would be the problem. I tend to think this might result in a German occupation of Finland. Hitler did not take kindly to allies changing their minds.
