Film AHC: A Captain America film in the 80s

I did one of these for an 80s Spider-Man film, so it made me think, who would you cast in a Captain America movie made in the 80s (for a release date, think somewhere between 83 and 86)?

Well, Val Kilmer was purportedly approached for the 1990 movie, so maybe he might get it a few years early.

Reading this and your other threads has given me an idea for a "Hadleyverse" TL where we've got 80s Spiderman and Cap, Xmen in 92, and basically the whole "Marvel Boom" of OTL but in the 80s. As for a Cap movie this is before Winter Soldier was written, but there was an ATL on this site where Alan Moore wrote a Marvel version of Watchmen with Cap as the main character. It was almost Kingdom Come Esque. Maybe we could use that here to give Cap a good sequel.

EDIT: Don't want to spam so here's some more stuff Lots of good info on the OTL Captain America production. What I'm thinking is that production begins immediately:
  • Captain America begins production in mid-1984 and is released let's say.... August 1985.
  • It makes good money and prevents Cannon group from going under
  • they can push through production from a Spider-Man movie released around 1987
Then there's the Bixby Hulk series. IOTL there was the movies in the late 80s which introduced Daredevil and Thor in an attempt to make TV series for them. We could either form these into the Cannon production (the whole thing was bought off IOTL but not by Cannon).

If we combine it with the now-successful Cannon then that would be a cinematic universe that would include
  • Captain America
  • Spider-Man
  • Incredible Hulk
  • Thor
  • Daredevil
  • She-Hulk (she was considered)
  • Iron Man (he was considered OTL)

Definitely an interesting proposition.

I would like to make a MCU starting in the 80s TL, but i dont have anywhere near the time to make such an elaborate one, especially since the only one i've given a serious cast to was the Spider-Man film. Kilmer would probably be the best bet for Cap, maybe you could have Charles Bronson in a smaller role as Nick Fury as well (this would be howling commandos era-fury, since the first film would be set in WWII), and if there was a sequel, a young Wesley Snipes would be a good choice for Falcon. Still dont know who to cast for the villains (you would have to use Skull and Zemo, and maybe Zola, appearances wouldnt matter much for the first two since they'd be behind makeup and hoods respectively).

You might end up with the 1990 Film released early.

Rights were bought in 1984, so if there's less issues, namely The Cannon Group stays together and Michael Winner doesn't drop out, it would speed up production, but won't make the OP's release dates.

If it manages to hold together, you might also End up with Dolph Lundgren as Cap.
He was apparently in the running, but dropped out because he was busy doing the 1989 Punisher film.
