Fictional US Senators Thread

Fictional US Senators. They can be weird in-jokes, ASB speculation about unusual historical figures making it to the senate, part of an alternate timeline, or even totally fictional characters. I'll start with an obvious joke one:

Jon Arbuckle
Junior United States Senator from Indiana

300

Political Party: Republican
Assumed Office: January 3, 2015
Previously:
-Member of the U.S. House of Representatives
from Indiana's 6th district January 3, 2013 – January 3, 2015
-Conservative political cartoonist at the The Indianapolis Star
Born: June 19, 1978
Family:
-Liz Arbuckle née Wilson (wife)
-Dan "Doc Boy" Arbuckle (brother)
Education: Ball State University, bachelors of Art and Business
Bio: Jon Arbuckle was born in Muncie, Indiana where he still resides with his wife and numerous pets. The political cartoonist for the Indianapolis Star, Arbuckle was also popular with the online right for his weekly arch-conservative webcomic James A.* He ran a wave of anti-establishment support into the House of Representatives, and later into the Senate. In office he has revealed himself to be nebbish and clumsy, responsible for a number of misstatements and embarrassing malapropisms. According to an interview with his wife, veterinarian Liz Wilson Arbuckle, the senator suffers from depression and spends many hours having imaginary conversations with his orange tabby as a form of therapy. His love for animals may explain why, despite his anti-regulatory politics, he reached across the aisle to help pass the the Animal Cruelty & Violence Intervention Act of 2019.**

*Former president James A. Garfield at the moment of assassination is instead transported to the modern day, where he comments on society with incredulity.
**It also may have been a reaction to an incident in 2019 in which a disgruntled constituent kidnapped one of his pets, a grey kitten, and mailed it to the United Arab Emirates.

Education:
-Ohio State University, Bachelor of Political Science
-Christ Church College, Oxford & Harvard Law School, J.D.
Bio: Born to a Nationwide Insurance executive, Alexander Hamilton Dean, and a socialite who claimed close lineage from an English noble family from which her grandfather had come, Mary Victoria Dean, née Greystone, in 1958, Jack Dean grew up in the city of Columbus, Ohio. There, he blossomed into a star two-way running and defensive back for his local high school and gained a scholarship to Ohio State University, where he played with the Buckeyes until he was injured in his junior year, never able to play again. He would graduate summa cum laude from the University, and would then earn a scholarship to study law abroad in Oxford, before coming back to the U.S. to finish up at Harvard. He then opened a practice in Columbus, got married to Charlotte Taft (four years his junior, a descendant of William Howard Taft). He then ran for the House of Representatives in Ohio's 3rd District in 1984, riding into office in a landslide helped by that of President Reagan the same year. He would serve for 14 years, and then be elected Governor of Ohio in a massive landslide in 1998, thanks to tireless campaigning and the recruitment of a progressive third party candidate to run, splitting the vote that would otherwise go to the Democrats. He was re-elected by similar margins in 2002 after he showed support for President Bush, whom he helped in his Bush v. Gore Supreme Court victory. After he was term-limited, he was appointed the Attorney General in the Bush Administration in its last two years. He then, for a short while, served as a correspondent for NBC News, before becoming the President of his alma mater, Ohio State University. He then decided to run for the Senate Seat being vacated by retiring incumbent George Voinovich, winning the seat by a large margin. In the Senate, Dean co-authored bipartisan legislation against sex trafficking, legislation to reduce judicial corruption, along with legislation to help non-violent drug offenders, and was key in closing several corporate tax loopholes and is a leading voice in the effort to reform campaign finance laws. Due to his extensive resume, he has been nicknamed "Jack Experience", and in Ohio, he has garnered the nicknames "The Big Buckeye", "Mr. Ohio", and "Do-It-All Dean". He has been mentioned many times as a possible Supreme Court nominee, Presidential or Vice Presidential prospect, and as a possible Attorney General for all Presidents since Ronald Reagan.

Carla Hayden
Junior Senator from Maryland
Carla_Hayden_%28cropped%29.jpg

Political Party:
Democratic
Assumed Office: January 3rd, 2019
Previously:
-Librarian of Congress (2016-2017)
-President of the American Library Association (2003-2004)
-President of Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore (1993-2016)
Born: August 10, 1952
Education:
-
Roosevelt University (BA)
-University of Chicago (MA, PhD)
Bio: Carla Hayden was born in Talahassee Florida, but grew up in Queens before joining her mother in Chicago. There she started a career in Libraries and information services that she thought would last her whole life. After getting her doctorate and teaching at the University of Pittsburgh she moved back to Chicago to become deputy director of the Chicago Public Libraries. Finally she ended up in Baltimore to be the CEO of the Enoch Pratt Free Library. She served there with distinction for almost 15 years, notably keeping the library open during the Baltimore protests surrounding the death of Freddie Gray. In 2003 she became the president of the American Library Association, where she used her position to protest the US PATRIOT Act as a violation of users privacy. In 2016 President Barack Obama appointed her the first Librarian of Congress, notably becoming the first woman in that position despite librarians being overwhelmingly women. Her tenure was short-lived. Late in 2017 she openly feuded with the Trump administration when she refused to change the designation of "undocumented immigrants" to the more pejorative "illegal aliens." She was swiftly maneuvered out of office in favor of a more pliable (and significantly less qualified) candidate. This experience gave her a taste for politics. In 2018 long-serving senator Barbara Mikulski announced that she would not run for re-election. Establishment democrats would have preferred a replacement that had undergone the "cursus honorum" of Maryland politics, perhaps representatives Donna Edwards or Chris Van Hollen. But Hayden's unusual politics, strident activism, and the lingering outrage over her treatment in Washington propelled her to the top of the democratic primary and then onto winning the general. She was sworn in early 2019 where she is only the third black woman senator in American history.

Norville "Shaggy" Rogers
Junior Senator from Massachusetts
49f23904eaf206761d6e60176df952b8.jpg

Political Party:
Democratic
Assumed Office: January 3rd, 2022
Previously:
- US Envoy against World Famine 2015-2017
- President of Rogers and Scooby-Doo Foundation (a Food Bank Charity) 2012-2015; then 2017-2022
- CEO of Rogers Bugers & Co. 2007-2015; then 2017-2022
Born: January 24, 1970
Family:
- Velma Dacey Dinkley Rogers (Wife)
- Frederick Samuel "Fred" Rogers (Son)
- Daphne Angela Rogers (Daughter)
Education:
- University of Massachusetts, Boston
- Quincy College, Plymouth
Bio:
After leaving Mystery & Co., Shaggy was not so lucky and finished to work in a fast food. But his career changed when he won his first food race in 2005. After that he won many races and with this money he bought the restaurant where he worked. Quickly he started a successful food company, founding Rogers Burgers in 2007. His best friend Scooby-Doo stayed with him for all his life and was hired as assayer in the same company. Then he reapproched his Fred, now a special effects expert in Hollywood, and Daphne Jones, now a fashion designer, and Velma Dinkley, now a Nobel Prize for Chemistry, his old friends of Mystery & Co. He married Velma in 2012, often saying "We complete each other: in fact she is the most intelligent woman on the Earth and I'm the stupidest man under Sun!". They had two children. Eating everything everywhere with his friend Scooby, Shaggy was touched by the see of many people starving after the 2008 Recession and decided to start a food charity. In 2015 President Obama nominated him as US Enoy against World Famine but he was not confirmed in the role (that was canceled) by new Trump Administration. Sadden by that, he resumed his old work but was determined to do something to change the political situation. In 2021 he run in a special election to fill Elizabeth Warren's seat after she was elected President and won convincingly the election. At age of 51, he is considered a rising star in Democratic Party.

Richard Petty
North Carolina Senator
013_richard_petty_80th_petersen.jpg

Political Party:Republican
Assumed Office:
January 3rd 2009
Previously: 7 time NASCAR champion, owner of Petty Enterprises, and Governor of North Carolina (2000-08)
Born: July 2, 1937
Education: Randleman High School
Bio: After retiring from driving in 1992, Richard Petty was a a national hero, receiving the Medal of Honor, but not as much as he was in his own state. People wanted him to do more than just run his race team. They wanted to see him help North Carolina. Petty was interested, but didn't give it a whole lot of thought at the time (1993). Towards the later 90's, he thought about it more and thought "why not?" He announced in the fall of 1999 that he would try to be the Republican nominee for governor. He became popular quickly and shot to the front of the primaries. He easily won the nomination.

His opposer would be Attorney General Mike Easley. Easley tried to slam Petty on his inexperience but Petty said,
I'm a hero to the people of North Carolina. Are you?
It was clear Petty would win and he did so on November 7, 2000 beat Easley 52% to 46%.

Petty's two terms as governor were good as the state economy boomed, and state infrastructure was upgraded as part of national highway plans as well as metro systems in Charlotte and the research triangle. As a racer, it made sense when he helped give money to refurbish Hickory Motor Speedway to keep them running upper level NASCAR races.

After eight years, and the persuasion of those around him, including his son, racer/singer Kyle, Petty decided to run.

(Note: his grandson Adam is alive ITTL)

Elizabeth Peacock
Senator from Connecticut

PeacockClue.jpg

Political Party: Democrat
In office: 1975-2001
Previously: Businesswoman, socialite, and heir to Arlington Grange
Born: January 5th, 1926
Family:
-Arthur Peacock (deceased, father)
-Vivianne Scarlet (niece)
Education:
Vassar Women's College (B.A.)
Yale (Masters)
Bio: Born in her family's stately Connecticut manor to a prestigious family of New England Brahmins, Elizabeth Peacock was determined to continue her father's legacy no matter her gender. Arlington Grange had overlooked Long Island sound for centuries, passed down from Peacock to Peacock whether the head of the family was a business tycoon, governor, or a senator like Elizabeth's father Arthur Peacock. Arthur only had daughters and although the littler sisters were content marrying eligible bachelors (one of them even snagged famous Texas oil baron Joe Scarlet!) Elizabeth had greater ambitions. Being the first woman in her family to go to graduate school, she ingratiated herself into her father's business interests until by his death in the mid-seventies she was the clear head of the Peacock clan. She shortly ran for her father's vacant seat in the Senate and easily won. In the early 80s she switched her party to the democrats as she disagreed with the anti-choice views of Reagan's republicans. In 1985 she was embroiled in the Boddy affair, when playboy and tycoon (and her rumored lover) Mr. John Boddy was found deceased by simultaneously hanging, shooting, stabbing, and bludgeoning. She was aquitted of the murder but conspiracy theories dog her to this day.

Thomas Dellucci
Senator from Rhode Island

Political Party:
Republican

Assumed Office:
January 3, 2019

Previously:

- Governor of Rhode Island: January 2, 2011 - January 1, 2019

Born: August 15, 1977

Family:
- Maria Dellucci (wife)
- Giovanni Dellucci (son, age 18)
- Sergio Dellucci (son, age 18; twins with Giovanni)
- Antonio Dellucci (son, age 16)
- Sophia Dellucci (daughter, age 14)

Education:
- United States Military Academy (B.A. in Military History)
- Columbia University (Dual M.A in Economics and International Affairs)

Bio: Born to a lower middle class family in Warwick, Rhode Island, Thomas Dellucci was always working hard to try and provide himself with a better life. He worked his way through Bishop Hendricken High School, an all-male Catholic high school in Warwick, where he earned a commission to the United States Military Academy, and after graduating, joined the Green Berets Special Forces, where he served for 13 years. There are rumors that during this time, he also was a special operator for the highly classified and covert Delta Force.

After 10 years, he spent his last three years of his deployment as a White House Fellow. There, he got the urge to go into politics. In 2009, Dellucci entered the Ready Reserves and decided to run for Governor of Rhode Island, where incumbent Republican Donald Carcieri was term-limited after two terms. He faced an uphill battle in the primary, where he was facing off against four other heavily funded and well-known opponents, including Carcieri's Chief of Staff John Robitaille (considered the front runner), former Cranston Mayor Steve Laffey, and State Representatives Joe Trillo and Robert Watson. Dellucci employed a grassroots, ground-style game of campaigning. Even though placed fourth in the statewide Republican Party endorsement vote at the party's convention in August (only placing in front of Robert Watson), he rallied his supporters and campaign staff to utterly shock everyone by winning the primary with 32% of the vote, to Robitaille's 30%, Laffey's 28%, Trillo's 8%, and Watson’s 2%.

After the bruising primary, many thought Dellucci to be vulnerable against former Republican-turned-Independent Senator Lincoln Chafee (who ran as an independent) and Democratic State Treasurer Frank Caprio, who faced no primary challengers. Initially seen as last in a field of three candidates, the Republican Party did not do much to help Dellucci. However, after President Obama refused to endorse Caprio, who then told the President to "shove it," Caprio began to fade, and Republicans jumped back into the race to support Dellucci. On Election Day, Dellucci shocked the political establishment by taking 43% of the vote to Chafee's 40% and Caprio's 17%.

Dellucci governed as a moderate, libertarian-leaning conservative. He constantly sought bipartisanship from Democrats in the state legislature, and Republicans in Rhode Island experienced a resurgence under Dellucci's leadership, retaking both chambers of the State Assembly in 2012 in what was called the "Rhode Island Republican Revolution." He was overwhelming elected with 68% of the vote in 2014, defeating Mayor of Providence Angel Taveras, who sought election when it seemed that Dellucci was vulnerable after signing legislation in 2013 that relaxed some of Rhode Island's gun laws.

Dellucci also had a reputation as an "everyman." He favored more relaxed parties over many black-tie events hosted by the state (and in his words, on taxpayer dollars). He would frequent bars and restaurants across the state and interact directly with the people of Rhode Island, making his appearance of such seem genuine instead of forced as many other politicians try to do. The resurgence of Rhode Island's Republican Party under Dellucci (electing Republicans Brendan Doherty in 2010 and 2014 and Allan Fung in 2014 as Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General, respectively) led to Dellucci to run for the United States Senate in 2018 against incumbent Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse. Under President Chris Christie (again, alternate timeline here), Republican enthusiasm in the New England area had skyrocketed, and through hard campaigning on his accomplishments in office as Governor, Dellucci was elected Senator with 54.5% of the vote.

-Charlton Benedict Houston (Grandson, 11, Son of Vanessa and Maximus)
-Jed James Varria (Brother, 78)
-Nathan Philip Varria (Brother, Deceased, Would be 69)

Education:
-The University of Southern California (Dropped Out)

Biography: Born Ella Louise Varria to a local theater owner, Jase Varria, and a restaurant owner, Emily Varria (née Roder), in southern California, Ella underwent great pain in the first parts of her life. Her mother, Emily, known for her beauty, was abducted by a patron of her small restaurant and was held as a sex slave by a group including men and women for two years, only being found in critical condition, and soon after being found, she died. Her brother, Nathan, died in the Vietnam War and was posthumously gifted the Medal of Honor for the circumstances in which he died.

Ella focused intensely on becoming an actress, after starring in several productions at her father's theatre. She applied to and was accepted into the University of Southern California, studying theatre, but dropped out after her first year, finding it to be more expensive then she thought. She became a struggling actress and singer, and struck it big at the age of 20 in the movie Sounds of the Strong, about a jazz musician trying to make it in New York in the 30s, alongside Roy Keller, two years her elder, whom she married soon after, in a wedding reported widely in the tabloids. They got their own variety television show, The Keller's House, while both continuing their acting careers and became known as "America's Couple". They mingled with many of the elite of Hollywood and the nation, including John Wayne (whom their son is partially named after), Johnny Carson (a godfather of their son, and the namesake for their grandson), Ann-Margret (whom they partially named their daughter after), Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Jim Brown, Frank Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, and Joe Namath, along with a few political figures, among them former actor and Governor of California (future President) Ronald Reagan, Nancy Reagan, former actor and U.S. Senator George Murphy, and President Gerald Ford and First Lady Betty Ford.

Once they began having children, George in 1975 and Vanessa in 1979, they became more of an iconic pairing, an American institution, especially as both of their kids became rather successful entertainers, with George becoming a huge movie star in his own right, and Vanessa becoming a successful singer. She began showing interest in politics in 1980, and was among the most active donors to Republican candidates, especially moderates, among the Hollywood elite, supporting George H.W. Bush in 1988 and 1992, and enthusiastically endorsing Bob Dole in 1996. In 1994, Roy ran and won a seat in the House of Representatives from southern California as a Republican, becoming a vocal member of the center-right, and allowing for her to have a platform to express her views. She quickly became as popular as her husband, and the couple became even better known as the only people to come into Washington popular and only increase that.

In 2006, Ella was asked by Arizona Republicans if she wanted to run for the Senate, as she was considered one of the most popular people in the state. She agreed and went onto a crushing win with landslide numbers, surprising due to the year otherwise being a blue wave. She is a public opponent against sex trafficking and is known for her bipartisanship in the Senate, making deals with Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer in the 2000s and working with Bernie Sanders to help ensure women are not sexually enslaved. She has been re-elected three times since.
