"The crew of the Iowa found time for much anti-aircraft practice, and escorting destroyers found the Iowa a perfect target for torpedo drills. On 14th November, the Destroyer William D. Porter accidentally fired a torpedo at the Iowa. Timing could hardly have been worse: FDR and all passengers were on deck watching the anti-aircraft practice."(The Iowa Class Battleship by Malcolm Muir)

The Iowa was informed and took evasive action to dodge the torpedo, but what if it never did. What If FDR was killed in a torpedo explosion? He was on his way to the important Teheran meeting if he was killed how would this have effected the war effort?
