FDR Assassinated

WI Franklin Delano Roosevelt was assassinated in the early days of his term by, say, some die-hard anarchist or a plain loony?

Where would the PODs happen in the US? What about WWII?

Actually there was an attempt on his life. Not a surprise really since someone actually tried to shoot President Gerald R. Ford. While IIRC the British PM to get shot and killed while on office was Peel.

In 1933 Giuseppe Zangara attempted to assassinate FDR, he failed but he did kill Chicago mayor, Anton Cermak. He was executed.

Two authors have already speculated on this Phillip K. Dick did so most famously in his work The Man in the High Castle.

The economy recovers without government intervention. No welfare state, no big government, smaller Supreme Court. Whether we enter WWII is the question, though it seems unlikely we would have remained neutral. The belief that the New Deal saved the American economy is a myth. In actuality, it was WWII (major manufacturing push for war effort creating jobs, destruction of our competitors for next two decades, etc.) that revived our economy.

You do realize that WWII was very much a government program? All of the sudden, the government is employing men in the military, and ordering factories to retool to produce goods needed by the government.... Maybe the new workers who were hired in place of the now-soldiers weren't paid directly by the government, but the companies were filling enormous orders from the government, so the government was indirectly paying the salaries.

Exactly. The Government is not EVIL, it just seems that it can never get its act together in times of peace (and now, war). You are both right.
