Hey guys. This thread asks the question: How can a non-polarized, fascist world come to be? With non-polarized, I mean there are multiple superpowers, with different branches of fascism as their state ideology. The POD should be somewhere in the early 20s, and the world has to be completely fascist by 1950 (with at least four different fascist power blocs).

This thread is inspired by this

but I dont find parts of this Timeline particularly plausible (allthough the basic idea, in my opinion, is quite plausible).

So, which countries could become independent, fascist powers, major or minor? What kind of branches of fascism will appear? Which nations will form alliances? And how could alternate WW2 look like?

Its not though, and thank the gods for that, in the end it would be like the Highlander there can be only one

Probably not the thing you seek, but I can sketch out a different post-Great War, Imperial Russia becomes more like Weimar then falls into reactionary sort of Fascist kinda proto-Nazi nutters, Mussolini rises so real Fascism, supports Fascist kindred reactionaries in Portugal and Spain, foments trouble in Austria, Greece, the Balkans, etc. Here Imperial Germany is led by a Socialist dominated coalition that tends to support Socialist parties, Liberal and conservative Britain either cannot respond or responds in the wrong direction, opposing the Germans, flirting with Italy, and France is even more schizophrenic, mostly opposing Germany despite its loathing of Italy, distrust of Britain and still more Socialist than not government. So a more southern Europe Fascist league with increasingly right-wing Russia looming to settle scores and return to greatness. I indulge in inverting some tropes and hand wave to get there, but its wacky.

Depends on how narrowly or broadly you define fascism. If you do it based on a small number of features - strong executive branch, strong central government, interventionist foreign policy, crony capitalism, and erosion of civil liberties - we have a fascist world right now.

If you require specific underlying ideologies sch as ethnocentrism, nationalism, and appeals to religion it's a lot harder due to many countries being ethnically and religiously diverse. That diversity prevents the government from using those views as a tool to gain popular support. And in reality, none if those are necessary to have fascist governance - in a more diverse country you just need different populist appeals. The policies are the same.

Indeed, its so easy to see it that way.

Not too difficult - fascism is nationalism with a strange economic policy. As a matter of fact, the instant any multipolar world occurs, they'll go nationalist, and a specific economic policy would simply make them "truly" fascist

Africa could become increasingly fascist if enough African students are sent abroad to study and come back with new ideas of unique African fascism, especially in already independent countries such as Ethiopia or Liberia.

Yeah and given how the victors would be the axis and fascism could be legitimized as a political force given enough time

Actually I meant stopping the outbreak of WW2. If the world doesn't have a Fascist bloc going to war with the rest it means that Fascism and possibly National Socialism will survive long after.

Well, I will try to craft a scenario (I will take many elements from RvbomAllys 'Under the Jackboot):

The POD is, when the red army wins the battle of warsaw in 1920, thus poland becomes socialist and part of the USSR in 1924. This causes the red scare and fear of communism to be stronger, with communist presence in europe being more prevelant and stronger.

As communism becomes popular for many in europe and north america, another ideology comes to the world stage, an ideology which is just as radical but vehemently opposes the communists. Imstead of the working class they promote the race. Instead of freedom from exploitation, this ideology wanted to build up national strengh. This ideology was fascism, and it quickly gained followers all over the western world. The rich supported it, as it sought to abolish workers rights, and many poor supported it, because it looked like an alternative to the burgeoisie form of democracy.

Italy was the first to fall, as the fascists under Benito Mussolini marched on rome and took power in 1922. After a miners strike shook Bitain in 1926, the elite supported a coup by the British Union of Fascists, that installed a fascist dictatorship with Edward VIII as the pupet monarch. The great depression hits the world in 1929. A Business-plot-esque coup places the USA under the control of a fascist government. In Germany, the nazis take power in 1933. The Spanish Falangists come to power after the victory at Madrid in 1936, ending the civil war against the leftist popular front, after a mere year.

Newly communist France and the Soviet Union undergo heavy militarization campaigns, to prepare for the innevitable fascist attack.

Japan, under a radically militaristic and fascist government, attacks China in 1937.
In europe, the situation is tense. Germany tried to annex Austria, but the Austro fascists successfully convince the Italians
to take a strong stance on Austrian independence. However Germany conquers Czechoslovakia in a brief war in 1939.
The situation on the German-Comintern borders remain tense. A pan-fascist alliance is formed between much of the european fascists and the american union state.

WW2 breaks out in 1942. The Wehrmacht conquers France within mere weeks. The USSR tries a preemtive offensive on the eastern front, which is stopped at the gates of Berlin. The axis counterattack throws the red army back to the original border, and after the summer offensive of 1943, the Polish SSR is occupied. By this point, the Japanese have conquered all of China, and have entered the war against the USSR, invading the country from the east.

By 1945, the Soviets are on their last legs, with Moscow and Leningrad fallen to the axis armies. By 1948 the axis have completely defeated the Soviet Union, and are just mopping up partisan strongholds in siberia.

After the war, the defeated powers (the fascist nations also attacked many neutral states during the war, as they saw their chance to grab land during the great mayhem), are divided between the victorious axis:

Germany annexes:
North-eastern France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, North Schleswig, the German parts of Switzerland (conquered during the last days of the war), Poland and the western USSR to the Ural mountains. They also gain their pre-WW1 collonies in africa back, along with the former belgian Congo.

Germany gains as pupets:
The rump french state, Denmark, Romania,
and Hungary (some of those states fought alongside the axis in WW2, but became completely dependent on Germany).

Italy annexes:
Parts of south eastern France, Corsica, the balkan adriatic coast, Greece, the Italian parts of Switzerland, Tunisia, eastern Algeria and Djibouti.

Italy gains as pupets:
Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Austria and Turkey.

Great Britain annexes:
Ireland, Iceland, the Faroer islands, most of french west africa, Madagaska, the french entities on the indian subcontinent, french Guyana, most of the french islands, Irak, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Oman, the iranian persian gulf coast, Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal (also Great Britain has kept tight control over all of it Dominions).

Great Britain gains as pupets:
Rump Iran

Japan annexes:
The former soviet provinves of Vladiwostok and Khabarovsk, Kamchatka, most of the chinese coast, Indochina, Indonesia and many of the french islands in the pacific.

Japan gains as pupets:
Siberia, Mongolia, Sinkiang, Xibei, Yunnan, Guanxi, Tibet, a chinese rump state and Thailand.

The American Union State annexes:
Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean (except for the British portions), Columbia, Greenland and Liberia.

The American Union State gains as pupets:
Venezuela, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Paraguay.

Spain annexes:
french Morroco, western Algeria, Portugal, Angola and Mozambique.

Spain gains as pupets:
-

Sovereign fascist nations are:
Finland, Norway, Brazil, Argentine, Chile and South Africa, Turkestan.

In the decade after the war, many of the fascist nations are occupied in consolidating their new empires. The 50s see the collapse of the axis (what a surprise), and the formation of new power blocs:

Germany allies with Britain and Spain.

The AUS sticks together with Italy

Japan forms its own bloc.

Each side looks on the others with gritted teeth and sabber rattling is usual business. But since every of the great powers developed its own nukes in the 50s and early 60s, open war ceased to be an option. However, a cold war would begin. The great powers would spread their influence via proxy wars and de-stabilization. There were many situations, when nuclear war allmost broke out, and by 2018 the world is still in great danger of total nuclear annihalation.

The fascist empires are all very similiar to one another. Most of them have adopted the Fuehrerprinzip, in which an individual holds total power of the state. However there are still multiple power blocs in each government, fighting for influence (for example the army, secret police and the party. Most of pollitics is dictated by huge corporations in the various nations). Every nation has groups which it despises, for example ethnic, religious or social minorities. Genocide and enforcing ones own culture on others is commonplace. Living standarts are very low, compsred to OTL (except for the rich and powerfull of course), and the population has become so indoctrinated and obsessed with fascist ideology, that most actually believe in it, or just go by in a aphatetic and/or depressed way. Its a nightmarish world, one in which all hope seems lost.

Central powers eke out narrow victory, outrageous German demands in East and West are signed off, US in the war but not fully committed. France and Britain fall to fascism quickly, Russia splinters and Austria shatters like glass. US economy hit hard as orders placed are now left to rot and not paid for because hey the war is over. 1919 and 1920 see a radically different economic hiccup more akin to 1929 but this one lasts as Germany doesn't need as much in the way of imports as Britain and France did and they can't afford anything right now. US succumbs to fascism circa 1925 as Japan takes the opportunity to expand and industrialize over the next decade, actually creating a somewhat believable GEACPS. By 1930 Germany too succumbs to fascism with Hindenberg becoming roughly a German version of Mussolini and setting the stage you see in the picture.
