This event is so obscure that it doesn't even have an English Wikipedia page.

But here is the next best thing.

Basically, the authoritarian government of Antanas Smetona, established in 1926, originally appointed Augustinas Voldemaras as the Prime Minister - but he turned out to be... unruly. He was a follower of Italian Fascism and very close to the Nazis, and in 1929, he was removed from his office and his personal paramilitary, the Iron Wolf organization (basically SA), was banned. At the same time, Smetona stalled important army reforms, which angered a number of officers, and in the end, an attempt at a coup d'etat began in June of 1934. However, despite initial success, the instigators failed to topple the government, disagreements began then began, and eventually the loyalist forces crushed the attempt.

So, the question is obvious - what if this coup d'etat was successful, Smetona was toppled and a fascist government was established in Lithuania only a year after Hitler took power in Germany?

And one thing, in my opinion, is certain - Fascist Lithuania would almost certainly align itself with Germany, as it's leader, Voldemaras, was probably the most pro-German politician in the nation.

Here are some potential branching questions to pose here:

1) Would the success of the Iron Wolf coup help incite similar coups in Latvia and Estonia, or at least make their own extreme nationalists, like the Thunder Cross movement and the Veps movement, stronger than OTL?

2) Would Hitler accept Lithuania in the Axis? Would it remain independent (although Klaipėda Region is a likely 'payment' for entering) or would the Germans turn it into a puppet state, like Slovakia?

3) Following from 2, and potentially with 1 at play here, would the Nazi racial categorisation of the Balts be different in this scenario? Even in OTL, the Balts were considered a step up from the surrounding Slavs, and with Lithuania now an ally of the Nazis, maybe they would be elevated to a similar tier as, say, the Finns? Or maybe even the other Germanics - after all, if the Nazis wanted to, they could just categorize Balts as "slightly Slavicized, but still acceptable Aryans", perhaps?

4) If/when the invasion of Poland begins, would Germany press Lithuania's claim on Vilnius along with Danzig?

5) In the unlikely scenario that the Axis defeats the Soviet Union, what could Lithuania expect to get from the peace deal? If anything?

I would love to hear your ideas.
