I was thinking about distraction operations of WWII and I became aware at how the Axis tended to fail in such regard. The allies created a false water pipe which made Rommel assume the battle would be huindreds of miles south, while D-Day had a massive operation in creating a false army. Yet the skills needed where not outside of the ability of the German army which history has shown was an adaptive and creative force.

WI the Germans instead of focusing on invasion focused on tying up British resources? Say Hitler had a vision, or the coordination of the army, navy, and airforce right away proved to be a massive obstacle. Simply the idea is that Germany decides it is better to avoid invading the UK.
