Following the notorious victory of Timurlane over Sultan Bayezid which lead to a 12 civil war in the Ottoman Sultanate not only was Sultan Bayezid killed as a result, but several of his sons were captured. Which in the following period lead to their 'sudden' reappearance and release to play havoc on Ottoman politics (which was used to the advantage of notably the Byzantines and Wallachians) as a number of pretenders emerged. One of these being 'False' Mustafa who emerged During the reign of Murad II and quite possibly was Bayezid's son as he soon defeated one other claimant and captured Rumeli (Ottoman Balkans). Whereupon he crossed the Dardenelles and was defeated by Murad. Though what if he had won?

For one it would have been a interesting political shift as Mustafa's main supporters were Rumeli March-Lords so it's possible despite promises to the Byzantines he may have gone further on the offensive in the Balkans. Either it would cripple the Byzantines or give them more time. Depending on how Mustafa's successors act. The Ottoman could focus on crossing the Aegean Sea and lead to another Turkic power rise in the East Anatolia.
