Hi! This is my very first post on this forum, so I'll try something interesting... I was on a Fallout binge and felt like discussing some history, so I made an account.
So, what do you people think about what the world of Fallout? The rest of the world, that is. I'm thinking of maybe using the stuff gathered here to make a map or even a Hearts of Iron IV mod, which would be interesting. This will span all the way from the 2050s to 2077.
I've read a few threads discussing the rest of the world, and I've collected a few maps dealing with the issue (mainly basing mine off of RvBOMally's excellent map), but I'm curious what would be your take on the world of Fallout. Ideally, it'd be a Cold War-inspired world with some dark/pulp humor here and there.

I made a scenario based off of some of the fanmade maps for the 2050s but with game balance in mind, since I made it in Hearts of Iron IV (which I've scrapped and left behind, since it kept crashing. May come back to it in the future.)

So far, what we know:
- America diverged around the 60s into 13 Commonwealths, and during the Resource Wars, became increasingly fascistic and isolationist, annexing Canada during the Anchorage Reclamation.
- China remained a staunch Communist power (possibly Maoist, as can be seen by their propaganda and Chairman Cheng's quotes), replacing the Soviet Union as the USA's main adversary.
- China annexed an unknown amount of Southeast Asian countries.
- A war in the Philippines occurred, with the final front before the Great War stretching as far south as Mambajao and the Bohol Sea.
- The Soviet Union survived, but is friendly enough with the US, that they had consulates and traded weapons (AK-112 from FO1), however there is still suspicion among the Americans
- Most of Europe was united into the European Commonwealth, which dissolved after a brutal war against "the Middle East", which could be inferred to as a coalition.

- Much of the Arab world united under a successful Ba'athist (as in, actual Socialist Ba'athism) United Arab Republic (including Lebanon and the monarchies). How they came to exist with Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf states cooperating, I can't say, but they hold an alliance of convenience with Iran. (main reason I did this was to give balance in a potential HOI4 mod against the European Commonwealth)
- The Soviet Union liberalized enough to trade with the US, but at a cost. Some of their more separatist territories gained independence, not to mention the entire Eastern Bloc. Their ideology is only Communist in name; most political circles, including Soviet ones, call it "Reformed Socialism". Overall, they are weakened, economically, politically, and militarily, while China grows very strong and advanced.
- Greece and Turkey are too embroiled in civil strife by pro-American forces and Communists to join either the EC or the Middle Eastern alliance.
- The South African Communist Party, pro-China, became ever-so militant and ousted the Apartheid government, meanwhile pushing a Pan-African policy and attacked its neighbors, therefore becoming the South African Union (flag I made here). China invests heavily in an alliance with the SAU, giving it a basic nuclear capability (this way, there's an excuse to nuke Africa and give China a naval base to strike at the US East Coast)
- The Central African Empire is a thing, led by an equally-crazy Bokassa-doppelganger named Maximillien I, but the difference is that in this timeline, they somehow succeed in being a country, even with Maximillien's questionable policies. In fact, they successfully invade the neighboring Chad for its oil resources, becoming very influential during the oil crisis. (with some work, this could work into Fallout's dark humor)
- Australia is still a US ally, and has to deal with the threat of Chinese invasion. They are the US' biggest supplier of nuclear materials.
- My own home country, Indonesia, is a repressive US ally, purging communists and alleged communists on a daily basis. (Post-war, it'd be cool if we degenerated into roving pirates a la Waterworld)
