Falling into Catholic hands

Queen Anne would be the reigning sovereign after her widowed brother-in-law, King William III.
On June 2, 1701 Parliament passed the Act of Settlement. The Act of Settlement had a Protestant heir to follow Anne. The heir was to be Sophia, Electress of Hanover.

Parliament's decision was that it was better to pass the crown to a foreign royal family than to risk it falling into Catholic hands.
What do you think?

Well, England (soon to become the UK) under the Hanoverians reached its zenith, while the Stuarts before and after were almost uniformly incompetent.
