Faith campaign backfires Saddam overthrown by radical Islamists

say in the late 1990s , the faith campaign backfires horribly on Saddam ,could a radical Sunni group successfully overthrow Saddam in a coup or revolt.if successfully how would a late 1990s Iraqi civil war play out with radical Sunni groups , al qaeda with a new base of operations,shia militias , iran and saudi arabia

Frankly, a lot might depend on who exactly the U.S. will back in this war. Indeed, would the U.S. try using radical Sunni Arab Islamists in Iraq to act as a counterweight to Iranian influence in the Middle East? Or would the U.S. decide that an expansion of Iranian influence in the Middle East is the lesser evil in regards to this?

Any thoughts on this?
