We have seen a few F1 alternative lists, but this is an attempt to create an alternative season in 1952. As F1 fans know, the FIA dropped F1 for 1952 and went for F2 cars because there was only one team seriously preparing to race. With new Regulations comming for 1954, they just promoted the F2 cars to F1 status and we went from fire breathing monsters to small 2l Ferraris parading behind Ascari.
The POD for a AH 52 is the BRM decision to enter a full works team for 52, teamed with too more annoncements. Alfa Romeo decides to keep the alfettas racing for one more year and Mercedes reveals that it as secretely rebuilt it's W165 1,5l cars and will enter a team:
The line up for the season is (Major teams)
Alfa Romeo: Fangio/Farina/Fagiolli/Bonetto
Ferrari: Ascari/Viloresi/Taruffi/Gonzales
BRM: Parnell/Walker/Moss/Schell
Mercedes: Lang/Stuck
Maserati: Chiron/Graffenried
Sinca: Trintignat/Behra
Talbot: Rossier/Etancellin
The season goes like this:
Swiss GP: Ascari leads from pole, too win from the Ferrari of Gonzales with Fangio third. People start talking of a Ferrari supremacy
Belgian GP: Fangio on pole with a Qualification Special engine. On the race the BRM of Moss uses it's power to force it's way to an impressive first win for the young Brit, with Fangio second nursing a low on fuel Alfa and Ascari third
French GP: Ascari wins with Fangio beating Gonzales for second
British GP: The Ferraris dominate on the (then) slow circuit. It's Ascari, Gonzales, Farina.
German GP. The constantly inproving Mercedes makes a surprise pole (Lang) but retires. Fangio wins but Ascari is second ahead of Moss
Dutch GP: Another Ferrai walk over. Team orders allow Ascari an easy victory, from Gonzales. Moss manages to clinch third.
Italian GP: The supercharged cars dominate the grid, with Moss on Pole alongside the two Mercedes. In the race as the (over)boosted cars break down one by one it's Lang that takes the flag, followed by Fangio and the newly crowned Champion Ascari.
