Extremely imperialist Britain following WW2

duh,

Cigar chomping Winston, you are not.

However, the similarity to a recently banned britnazi who used that monicker is... mildly amusing.

Vladimir Lenin founded the SU. The SU defeated Germany in WWII. At this time the leader of the SU was Josef Stalin...

[Insert sound of piercing scream signifying the onset of sudden insanity. Also insert the sound of hair being torn from one's own head.]

Not even the 1945 WWII US, with its great material superiority, can achieve the re-domination and colonization of India. We are talking about a target country with BILLIONS of people here. A 1940s nuke is, at best, a city- destroyer and in no way useful for the suppression of the Indians.

1 British killed = 1000 Indian killed? Fine. Give us a good reason/ source of unlimited wealth and manpower that UK needed to maintain at least several MILLIONS of troops in India. This topic is a complete nonsense.

Might I suggest a modification?

What about a Great Britian seeking to reinforce the Commonwealth by inviting the United States to become a part of it. Build a NATO-style military defense force, a EEC-style trade zone, and have a 'Parliment of Members' and you basically HAVE as restored British Empire without the fuss of conquoring anyone. Let the British be British and the US do the heavy lifting.

problem is, why would the US play second fiddle to an exhausted, nearly bankrupt UK, when the US national myth revolves around how the US is better than the Old World (specifically, the BE)?

There is no rationale for it, not even the historical fondness for the BE that might justify a Canada/Australia/NZ choosing to prop up the system.

This time, instead of amnesiac British, the PoD requires amnesiac Americans.

A more integrated, more equal commonwealth might have been possible, but heavily dependent on the equal part, and even that would have excluded India and Ireland, for reasons that seem too self evident to bother revisiting.

The resultant entity would be a significant player, but nothing short of ASB intervention is going to either make London the world power of the 18th/19th centuries, or suddenly inspire the British to attempt the clearly impossible.

As much as some folks hate to accept it, the OTL UK approach of playing Greece to the American Rome was pretty close to the best hand that London could have played at the time.

If it makes anyone feel better, I think there is movement in some US intellectual circles to positioning us to play the same role vis a vis India - however wildly implausible that might be, for all kinds of amusing reasons.

Fully agreed in principle - minor numbers quibble - pretty sure India was shy (if only a tad) of the 1 Billion mark in the late 40s early 50s. Still far too many for the British to put down baring Drakaverse rules*.

* Drakaverse rules: noun/meme - the anti-hero empire (identifiable by cool uniforms, astonishing brutality, palor, and prominent role of lesbian assassin-warriors (fangs, leather optionsl) can do no wrong, gets every possible lucky break, and does not suffer from limitations of logistic trains, war weariness, infighting, bad judgement, or production constraints. The opponents, meanwhile, can do nothing correctly, make every mistake possible, never unite, never utilize their strengths, never strike enemy weaknesses, never attack preemptively, never gather or act on intelligence, and ignore aggressive preparations and moves by the anti-hero empire until it is too late to respond.
