Suppose the U.S. (by whatever means) wins the War of 1812 and takes all of Canada. The U.S. then expels anyone unwilling to swear allegiance to the U.S. (which would seem likely to mean most Quebeckers, if not all, & many Anglophones).
Where do they go? And how does that affect the development of those places?
I picutre many Francophones in Haiti, or back in France, & most of the rest in South Africa or Oz.
How much is the world affected if Canadians aren't around? I'd expect some OTL Canadian inventions would still happen, just in different places. I'd also expect some things that disappeared OTL might not, with different people in charge. (Huot, in France, might mean a French automatic rifle in WW1, & no Chauchat, frex.)_
Any suggestions?
