Expulsions after the War of 1812?

Suppose the U.S. (by whatever means) wins the War of 1812 and takes all of Canada. The U.S. then expels anyone unwilling to swear allegiance to the U.S. (which would seem likely to mean most Quebeckers, if not all, & many Anglophones).

Where do they go? And how does that affect the development of those places?

I picutre many Francophones in Haiti, or back in France, & most of the rest in South Africa or Oz.

How much is the world affected if Canadians aren't around? I'd expect some OTL Canadian inventions would still happen, just in different places. I'd also expect some things that disappeared OTL might not, with different people in charge. (Huot, in France, might mean a French automatic rifle in WW1, & no Chauchat, frex.)_

Any suggestions?

How would former Loyalists, who had fled to Canada, be treated ? Also runaway slaves, now free in Canada, would be afraid aswell for slavers might be out to kidnap them.

I expect the Loyalists would be treated pretty harshly, if they decided to stay--& fair chance the treatment they got would lead many (most?) to leave. (Confiscation of land & other property? Loss of voting rights?)

The slave issue I'd completely overlooked.:oops: I expect they'd be subject to return (recapture), but not forced return. (In this era, I don't think Fugitive Slave Laws required it from Northern LEAs; I may be wrong.) It might be they'd want to flee to Haiti (a free, black-controlled country then?), where the Francophones might take Algeria (French India? Indochina?)

I think some Loyalists may try to get back to England, but I don't know how many would do that.
I think that's possible. I tend to think, tho, the kinds of people who came to Canada (& the ex-UELs) were the kind who wouldn't b really happy in Britain, which is why I suggest many going on to SAfr or Oz. The kind of person that came here had a different mentality, the same way (or much the same) as those who went West in the U.S. differed from those who stayed.

Any treaty that Britain signed would of guaranteed British citizens rights. Also not sure why you force people conquered to pledge allegiance. All emigrants in the US did not have to. What is reason? What they do to the natives ? Also how does US force 200-300,000 to be expelled.

I am not stating that because they in Canada. The US did not do that when they captured Texas or California?

Maybe I shouldn't have said "expelled". I have a feeling more than a few would feel unwelcome, & more than a few wouldn't want to live in the U.S. (or under U.S. control). Whatever the reason, where do they go? And what effect does that have downstream on (frex) South Africa or Oz?

Does it, frex, mean the Boers move north sooner? Or are there enough immigrants to convince them to head for DEI? (Npt expecting Draka to arise... )
