Based upon an experiment my professor for social history came up with to show us how easily History could be chanced. Each group of students represented a nation or faction and we were to guide those countries, which meant discussions would be made with our thinking, opinions, friendship with or groups, etc.
North America; 1750-1800
- During The French and Indian war France saw its colonial foothold upon the North American continent compromised and feared they would lose it completly, so the outcome was settled with more diplomatic perspective between the two nations. Great Britain still won the war and was declared the victor which gave him a benefit during the negotiations; Spain however had managed to occupy The Bahama's and Georgia and secured The Caribbean, partially helped by the Governor of Haiti who willingly surrendered Haiti to Spain so that it would remain in Bourbon hands. In 1763 the British settled with Acadia, Upper Louisiana, the parts of Lower Louisiana east of the Mississippi River and a promise not to expand further, Quebec and Lower Louisiana remained French and saw there territory guaranteed. Spain kept The Bahamas and Georgia but ceded the Yucutan and surrounding areas to the British, which would be added to the British Mosquito Coast.
-With Peace returned in North America, Spain saw its chance to expanded more towards he north-west and created the Province of California early 1764. In a British reaction The 1764 Royal American Charter extended the borders of the colonies who could expand westwards to the Mississippi & Ohio rivers and the Quebec border. The rest of the newly gained territory was assembled into the newly created Ohio Colonial Province, with its capital in Detroit. It also allowed the Hudson Bay Compagny the right to follow the Missouri river westwards and reach the Pacific Ocean, before the Spanish would take it all.
-By 1769 Spain and Great Britain had their second border in the west and border tension rose, which escalated into a stalemate war in 1771. Most fighting was done in the east with Spain occupying Charleston and surrounding areas and the British occupying Augusta and raiding the Caribbean.
-In 1765 the Americans rejected the authority of Parliament to tax them without elected representation, many colonists considered the new laws to be illegitimate and a violation of their rights as Englishmen. Protests escalated as in the Boston Tea Party of 1773, which lead Britain to impose punitive laws on the whole of New England and the Ohio Colonial Province. In 1774 the Patriots suppressed the Loyalists and expelled all royal officials. Each colony now had a new government that took control. The British responded by sending combat troops to re-establish royal control and declared Martial law in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Richmond, Detroit and even Halifax (even though things had stays calm there)
-When the Continental Congress assembled for the second time in Philadelphia in 1775 it declared its Independence. The delegates of New Foundland, Nova Scotia, Acadia (OTL Maine and New Brunswick), New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware approved the declaration of independence; the delegate from Ohio declared he would vote blanco but would support the majority; delegates of Virginia, North- and South Carolina disapproved the declaration of independence as they had the Royal Navy close to them in the Caribbean, there was already a British military force presence in their territory fighting the Spanish, the southern half of South Carolina being occupied by the Spanish, a fear that a newly independent nation would be weak and defenseless against Spain and the general believe that staying British was the only way from being completly occupied by Spain. The approving colonies now became states, formed the Federation of New England and rejected British proposals for compromise that would keep them under the king.
-In early 1778 the French entered the war as allies of New England after Congress had guaranteed the French that they would leave Louisiana and Quebec under French rule. Britain now was at war with New England, Spain and France, whilst having no real allies of there own after the Dutch (who stayed very friendly with the English) denied help because Britain rejected they're only condition (give us back New Amsterdam). Despite of the help of German auxiliary forces the British were for once on the loosing side of a war.
-A peace treaty in 1780 confirmed the new nation's complete separation from the British Empire. New England took the territory of the states who had approved, Spain was allowed to keep Georgia and the part they occupied of South Carolina, France gained a western portion of the Hudson Bay Company's territory and the British retained their control over Virginia, North- & South Carolina and the greater part of the Hudson Bay Company's lands.
