Experimental Armored Force and Beyond – Or what would the British Army have looked like in 1938 had they persisted with the evolution of Combined arms formations from 1928?
That in a nutshell is the ‘thrust’ of this thread
Had the experiments and evolution of the British Army’s experimental Mechanized and Armored Brigade continued after the Brigade was disbanded historically (1928)- Maybe Col Fuller agrees to command the force (Historically he turned the appointment down) and the funds to expand and supply it had been forth coming from the treasury - what would the British Army have looked like by 1938 after 10 years of constant evolution?
Would the Army prior to its pre-WW2 Expansion have consisted of a small number of such combined arms armored forces and retained the Infantry Division as the main building block or would it have been purely comprised of combined arms Brigades/Divisions?
Would 10 years of operational experience have led to a universal tank and a universal chassis for APC/Artillery Tractor?
Would the Cavalry and Infantry tank concepts have been dismissed already by 1938?
