Exist "inevitable" events?

Likely,if in any moment during the Cold War, WW-III was happened,
now in some ruined city two sons of survivors would say that thermonuclear war was "inevitable" and that a long, relatively, peaceful Cold War was "pure ASB".
But,exist inevitable events?
A peaceful XX century without great world wars is ASB?
Without Sarajevo murder a some balance between great powers is "ASB"?
Avoid Great depression is ASB?
a WW-II was "inevitable" also if Hitler was hit by a car in 1919?

Nothing is inevitable, but some things are likely.

History is built not of isolated events, but of trends. To prevent WWI, a trend of militarism and aggression would have to be reversed, or else something other than Sarajevo would spark a war. To prevent the Great Depression, there would have to be a reversal of a trend of ill-advised decisions.

So, yeah. Nothing's inevitable, but not all outcomes are equally likely.
