Everyday life in 1919 or so

I'm working on a story set in 1919 (Mountains of the Future, in ASB) and running into some challenges--the daily life of the time.
What documents are needed for such things as driving a car, buying one--is there a license to drive? Need a car be registered?

What's needed to buy a house, if cash is available--no mortgage. To buy stocks?

These are the major questions I need answers for as soon as i can get them--any good online sources?

I't easy to find out who's who--wars, stock markets, and such--but finding out what cars are popular--harder. She needs something that's not TOO conspicuous, but has better performance than a Model T

Here it says the following (I assume the milieu of your story is the U.S.)

In the United States, vehicle registration began in 1901. Licensing drivers began in 1916, and by the mid-1920s there were age requirements and other restrictions on who could be licensed to operate an automobile.

A random tidbit: I think I heard once that a 12-year-old boy was given a licence before the age restrictions kicked in.

In rural areas underage males & women frequently drove farm vehicles w/o licenses. Folks did not give much thought to sending a experienced 12 y/o a fewmiles to town with a load of grain or to buy some essential repair part for the farm.

Thanks!

This will be in the United States from 1919 on--the northeast, mainly (or Mainely?)

Thanks for the links; they are very useful, and helped me go on to find out more.

My protagonist has everything she needs to make documents to order--seeing that there's no photograph required is a big help :) A bit more digging, and I found that as late as 1935, no license was needed in many states. Massachusetts and New York did, NH and Maine, I don't know yet.

Likewise, there was no really widespread system of identification, making it easy for the well equipped time traveler to create new ID's as needed...

It seems like something is breaking right for the time-lost lass...

As far as driving a car, at least in OH, you had one. My Grandmother said she went in a drug store and paid cash for her Drivers license. In the winter most got the slegh back out. Your time line very close to you timeline Maine was 100 in 1820,I think.
