Evenly divided Germany post WW2

In OTL FRG was bigger then GDR but WI they were about same size? soviets more successful (say AG A not evacuated or not wholly evacuated from Caucasus) which allows soviets to make bigger gains faster. Napkin division is same or at least post-war effects are same.

FRG would have less resources to develop and would be less successful, GDR would have more people to oppress and larger economy to screw over. OTOH Stalin might partition it even more, giving bigger chunks to Poland and CS.

thoughts?

The title infers that you want germany split evenly, and for that to happen it would have to be split between the 4 nations that really help take it down, aka GB USA France, and the USSR. That in itself leaves west germany larger as it would have 3/4 of the total german area.

well yes but US, British and French zones later merged into FRG. I was thinking about even west/soviet division

Something like an even division might have occured if America hadn't entered the European war. The Soviets most likely would still have won the war, and because they did the liberating of Europe, they could even occupy all of Germany. That good enough for ya?

Maybe a Soviet-occupied Bavaria?

That would be really the only thing that makes sense geographically-speaking, and I guess you could posit a Soviet thrust through Austria into Bavaria, maybe the guy who managed to hold the Balkan front together for the Germans fails this time and the Red Army makes a speedier advance ?

What if allowing Germany to retain the Prussias, Further Pomerania and Silesia?

This gives a larger East Germany.

without US I don't think allies would be able to do as well. No US in the war would mean no LL to Soviets, no US bombing campaign and so on.
