King's Cobras
I think Thailand sent approx 2000 elite combat troops of the King's Cobra regt (which I believ also provided the Thai contingent for INTERFET and UNTAET in East Timor) to fight in VN, as well as allowing the USAF to operate from bases like U Tapao.
Other potential contributors to a More Flags in VN scenario- what about Latin American states like Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia ? During the 1960s, many of these Hispanic countries had their own problems with local Commie guerillas, whereby the US sent in advisory teams and munitions similar to the US efforts with the ARVN. WI some of these Latin American armed forces reciprocated by contributing combat contingents to assist US, ARVN and Free World forces in the Nam, to gain combat experience which could be used in their own domestic COIN ops ?
Or maybe if more Pacific Island states sent combat contingents too, as with the Fijians deployed to Malaya. Also, WI perhaps the Malaysian govt, to assist Australia and NZ in gratitude for British Cth help in quashing the Malayan Emergency and Indon Confrontation, decided to send over a contingent, including a few Iban native trackers to hunt down the VC in the jungle ?
Jimmy, interesting idea- similar to how there's portrayed in APOCALYPSE NOW REDUX a scene of armed French expats in a fortified plantation house who refused to leave after Dien Bien Phu. Hmmm, could've gone either way- these Frenchies could've either stayed on to assist the US as auxiliaries similar to the Montagnards, or there still coul've been some sorta mass exodus of these substantial French communities in Indo-china a la Algeria after 1962 with all the PIEDS NOIR leaving to metropolitan France.
