European powers intervene in the Xinhai Revolution

Could the European powers intervene on the side of Qing to crush the Xinhai revolution

Would European intervention save the Qing

What powers would likely intervene

Xinhai was far more of a coup in practice. Once the army has abandoned the Qing, their goose is cooked at being anything more than a client.

I think that European empires would only intervene if their national interests in China were being attacked by local forces, as was the case in the Boxer Rebellion.

And it would have to be a concentrated force. Although, without the Dowager Empress, there probably won't be official support for the rebels this time. A second Boxer Rebellion in ten years isn't going to impress the European powers, I'd imagine.

How would the Qing look as a client state and Couldn't the Europeans intervene before Yuan Shikai switched sides

Wouldn't at least one of the European state be inclined to support the rebels instead (out of opportunism if nothing else)?

Asian and by extension Chinese politics are defined by this rule: the strongest force gets the most support. In most cases, it's whoever has the most military backing. It's how the emperors secured the loyalty of the populace, how Chiang Kai-shek got in power, and how Syngman Rhee beat all his other rivals (although he had the US's favor too).

With most of the army having abandoned the Qing, not even foreign intervention from any European power could save them. Not to mention that in Western eyes, the Qing were still embarrassingly backward and decadent.
