Europe believes Poland attacked Germany

EUROPE BELIEVES POLAND ATTACKED NAZI GERMANY

I saw a (somewhat simplistic) documentary that said that Heydrich's staged fake Polish attack on a radio transmitter on the border was intended to be used for propaganda effect to show Poland attacking Germany. OK, I knew this of course, but what the documentary said was that the intended broadcasts from the transmitter showing this to be the case, and intended to be repeated generally across the Reich before the German assault of the following day, failed because no one had checked the strength of the transmitter. It could only transmit a few kilometres, so no one heard its broadcast.

What if, therefore, Heydrich checks and finds its too weak so makes sure that another stronger transmitter is used ? Thus, the world hears about a Polish attack on a German installation the day before Germany "retaliates" ?

So for years the Nazi's have been aggressively threatening war, showing off their war machine and annexing territory - and now the world is supposed to believe they're peace loving fun bunnies attack by the evil (and apparently suicidal) Poles?

I don't think the world is going to swallow that one, no matter who the station transmits to.

And even if they do, a lot of people are going to soon ask:
- How come the Germans were ready for war?
- How come (even to an outside observer) looks like a secret agreement with the USSR to divide Poland?
- What could the Poles possibly hope to gain by attacking 1 radio station, especially when their are Nazi panzers on the borders of 3 sides of their country?
- How would blowing up a radio station justify over-running and destroying an entire country?

Yes admittedly, these were some objections I came up with too !

One COULD just about believe a pre-emptive Polish strike against Germany - IF THERE WAS ONE !

But yes, quite what good blowing up a radio station is !

Far too transparent a lie at this point. And cheap - I mean, not even sacrificing a battlecruiser or airfield. I an't see anyone believing this (outside Germany, that is). How much credibility would attach to a Myanmari claim that Laotian commandoes were invading their territory and their entire army just happened to be ready to repel the assault all the way to Vientiane?

Exactly. The only way Nazi Germany could persuade the world that Poland had started the world is if it actually happens. In other words, provoke Poland to do something rash and stupid in Danzig (the German population do Danzig stages a successful insurrection and the Senate of the Free State votes for union with Germany and the Poles go in the city guns blazing to enforce the status quo by force and Germany declares it is forced to declare war to protect its nationals from slaughter). Waiting to invade Czechoslovakia un til Poland is crushed would help a lot about making Germany's case believable, too.
