I got EU3 for Christmas, but I only recently managed to get it to play.

Can anyone tell me precisely what Prestige does? I'm playing as Castille and I have around 70 prestige [number 1 in the world].

Can you also tell me how I get prestige [apart from random events and national ideas]? Because I don't know how I managed to get 70 prestige, it might have been the massive number of royal marriages I've had.

Your friend, the EU III Wiki:

Krall- From the wiki:

"Prestige is a percentage, ranging from -100 to 100, that is, essentially, a measure of a nation's success, and countries are ranked according to their prestige. Prestige is gained by successful playing, such as by winning battles and wars, by diplomatic actions such as gaining a vassal or establishing a royal marriage, and by discovering new lands and establishing new colonies. It can also be gained by having a philosopher as an advisor, or by selecting certain national ideas. Prestige can be lost by the inverse of the above actions, for example by losing battles or wars, having diplomatic actions rejected, or by having a colony seized or destroyed. It should also be noted that prestige will automatically return to zero over time (-5/year base modifier), so you must continue with prestige gaining actions to keep your prestige as high as possible."

"EFFECTS:
The following are affected by prestige, either negatively or positively, dependant on the prestige level:
  • The chance of gaining territory through dynastic succession.
  • The chance of having diplomatic proposals accepted.
  • The cost and salary of court advisors.
  • The monthly rate of change of your relationship value with other countries.
  • The rate at which you gain new diplomats. [+(prestige/100)/year]
  • Merchants' and colonists' success rate.
  • The morale of armies and navies. [+(prestige/2)% ]
  • The success rate of influence attempts on cardinals. "
What mod are you playing with? I reccomend demanding (or asking very politely and with offerings of enduring love, whichever you think works best) whoever blocked your internet to unblock the EU3 forums/main website: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=323

Get the Magna Mundi Mod. NOW. I don't want to hear excuses, you aren't playing EU3 til you get that mod! :D

But it seems to be down as even I can't access it right now. :(

Ah, thank you Iamwinterborn!

That would explain why I have such a high prestige, considering I've had Royal marriages with Denmark, England, Leincester, France, Brittany, Portugal, Aragon, Austria, Burgundy and Brandenburg, and the fact that Aragon's now my vassal, and I won a war against Venica and Sicily [two italian provinces! Woo! I did manage to take 4 Venetian provinces too, but they refused to let me annex any, they wouldn't even let me have Corfu! Then I had to accept a White Peace when Aragon got attacked by Morroco and Algiers...]

What mod are you playing with?

Do I have to play with a mod? Because I'm not playing using any right now.

But, I already started playing... and I'm winning! I took Tangiers, dammit! [I took it relatively easily, though, my sister tried to do the same thing and it took a rather long war and Castile having to hold four different Morrocan provinces to convince them to give her Tangiers. She has no manpower left now].

So this gaining lands through dynastic succession thing, how does it work? Does a nation just suddenly become yours, or do you just get some land in a certain nation or what?

First you get a royal marriage. then the other monarch croaks under some conditions and you get to lead personal union. Then when their monarchs dies under certain conditions you inherit their lands.

Which happened to me while playing Austria, got entire Russia that way. Well, I inherited shitload of provinces with Orthodox faith (as if having shitload of pagan provinces isn't enough  ) and their nasty neighbours. I annexed two of them but I'm just waiting for Ming to jump me.

But Spain and Portugal stopped DoWing me so I can't kick their asses and expand into Iberia.:mad:

In the opinion of some fanboys,Paradox designed the game differently:D.

Blah. I'm specifically holding off buying In Nomine until a compatible Magna Mundi Gold II (when it comes out) is released for it. I just can't play vanilla anymore...it's so...bland.

mmmhmmm! I am refusing to buy the "Beyond the Sword" expansion for Civ4 for the same reason. I cannot. repeat, CANNOT play Civ4 without the Total Realism mod.

I will refuse to play EU3 without magna mundi either.

Personally, I haven't played it for long enough for it to become bland.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a Portugal to vassalise.

So would anyone like to try and get a game together sometime? :) I've never done EUIII multiplayer before but I've had some great fun with Hearts of Iron LAN games.

That'd be a nice idea, but I'm not sure when I'll next be able to access the only computer we have that is actually able to run EU 3.

If we do start a multiplayer game, do we all co-operate as one nation or play as several different nations?

Oh, being several different nations is much more fun.

Oh, is there an option between the two, then?

Because I'd quite like to co-operate on one nation. We could have people assigned different tasks, one person could co-ordinate the army, someone else could be the diplomat and be in charge of getting royal marriages, someone else could keep an eye on what the money's being spent on etc. etc.
