The Eureka rebellion in 1854, was a short lived rebellion by a bunch of miners in Australia over the taxes on gold mining.
The leader of the rebellion beklieved that the ramshackle fort wouldn't be attacked on a Sunday and left it relatively undefended and open for attack, which indeed it was.
This rebellion had public support and at least 1500 miners willing to fight from the outset, what if the stockade had been fully garrisoned at the time of the attack by british troops.
