EU Challange: Quebec and Morocco

Bright day
Well as I saidm can you make Republic of Quebec and Kingdom of Morroco members of European Union by 1/5/2004?

Well, Canada as a whole is an easy entry. But an independent Quebec is hard to make. If it comes into being too early, it might butterfly the EU away. Too late, and its just autonomous.

Why would the successful secession of Quebec butterfly the EU away?

Unless France heavy-handedly gets involved (and thus gives everyone the jitters about France's intentions), I don't see that really interfering.

If it happens too early, you're going to change quite a bit about Europe. The World Wars will be different, because Canada will be different. So will a lot of colonial wars.

An independent Quebec is going to sour relations between England and France, if done violently. If too early, Quebec might end up being a part of teh French Empire, which causes all sorts of butterflies.

Oh, too early being the 19th Century or so.

I'm thinking if Quebec secedes in 1970 or so, it shouldn't affect European integration.

1970s is a bit too late for any real secession. Autonomy is enough at that point.

Plus, if they part like that, I doubt England would really look well upon the Quebecois.

I would imagine Quebec’s trade would be so heavily dependent upon the rest of Canada that it wouldn't make seen for them to enter a free trade area that didn't include Canada.

The same thing applied to Ireland, they entered the EEC with Britain and they remain outside the Schengen agreement because their free movement with the UK is more important.

Well this is after 1900 forum.

Morocco has actualy petitioned several times. Only change needed is to do something to it so that rest of EU does not go all "DEAR GOD, NO! NEVER!".

Maybe rest of Canada, and US decide to "stick it" to Quebecois? And they "stick it" to Canada and US by asking for admission of EU? And much to suprise of all France begs their way in?

If Morocco then probably Turkey also. Perhaps even Tunisia, Libya and Lebanon? Is it so unplausible? The relations between the europeans and muslims would be much better than today. The standard of living in Middle East would probably also for some reasons be better. Much more tourists would dare to go there because they're never afraid of terrorism. Bush wouldn't be elected a second time... SNL could no longer joke about the republicans and George all the time so they have to improve. Meanwhile Fox deside to bring back Futurama. ;)

Here is a map of the new Europe. I haven't succeded including Quebéc yet.

I think that what you need is a North Africa as open to secular ideas and pro-Western views as Turkey. This will need an early POD. If they do that, then people might be more willing to consider them as part of a greater Europa, just as Turkey is in OTL.

Anything more in the Middle East is just silly. Unless they're in the EU as subsidary states, just like a Dominion of Canada would be. But I don't like the idea. The EU should do a lot of creeping, dammit. It can't skip and swallow up entire regions.

That said, it would be weird if Israel was in the EU.

Actually since of passage of the US-Can FTA and NAFTA, Quebec now does more trade with the US than with any Canadian province (although the total of all the Canadian provinces is still greater than trade with the US). Trade with Europe is curently tiny compared to either the US or ROC (rest of Canada).

So a trade deal with Europe and another with the US could be part of a strategy to develop a degree of economic independence from the ROC. However full EU membership rules out of the deal with the US.
