Ethnic Cleansing in Pakistan

IMAP.GIF

Say India kicks Pakistan's arse during the 1947 conflict and seizes the opportunity to try and re-annex the newly partitioned territory. It then enacts a policy of ethic cleansing on the local Muslim population. (Forced deportations to Afghanistan, shutting down of Mosques, etc)

How would the international community react sans-1947?
Would it even work?

There is absolutely no way India would ever ethnically cleanse Pakistan in any recognizable scenario. India was a secular state which was already 15 percent Muslim. In order for such a scenario to occur, you need the right-wing of the RSS to take power, an impossibility.

I would like to say that there is no way of this happening, but I'm sure sure if whichever Anti-Muslim Party was in charge were able to label the excersise as Getting rid of Communists, or Getting rid of Imperialists (whichever side said party swung) then with the backing of the Yanks or the Ruskies there would not be any real way for the international community to stop it.

Whether the population of India would put up with such a thing, I cannot say.

Now, be really careful how you answer this...

How do you propose they ethnically cleanse 60,000,000 people?

Somehow, I doubt a UK feeling increasingly unimportant would sit idly by on the Security Council of an energetic young United Nations while one of their previous colonies essentially adopted the same style of government and started committing the same atrocities as the enemy that was just defeated. This is to say nothing of the newly-superpower USA and USSR that are both ready and willing to flex their muscles. What would likely happen is a USA/USSR race to save the day in the name of Democracy/Communism.

Around 1947, you'll be hard pressed to find a power on Earth that is willing to let something like Nazism even exist.

Just wanted to point to that I do not support ethnic cleansing in any way at al before I answer this.

If I was into the ethnic cleansing business, however, this is the general pattern I would use for all cases:

Use the adults and older children as essentially slave labor and take the younger children and send them to be raised by families of the "superior/dominant race" to assimilate them.

Is this evil? Yes, but ethnic cleansing in general is, so if anyone supports ethnic cleansing, I wouldn't put this past them.

*cough* *cough* Israel in 1948 and 67 and 73 *cough* *cough*

Well, ethnic cleansing already happened in Pakistan during the 1971 war, in the midst of East Pakistan fighting for independence as the country of Bangladesh...

Regardless, my point is that ethnic cleansing, especially on that level, was going to be even less palatable than usual to a world coming out of WWII

Please elaborate. To my knowledge, there was no ethnic cleansing going on in Israel in any of those times, nor was there a fascist head of state.

Israe forcibly expulsed many of the Palestinians in 1947, but the killing of the Palestinians wasn't as bad.

Nor was it ethnic cleansing to my knowledge. There was a lot of suffering as a result, but it was more of a "we live here now so get out" as opposed to strategic genocide.
