Escaping Soviet Rule

Around how much land would the testing grounds take up, do you think? The Big Five had plenty of open land for testing though Eastern Europe would need to choose where they detonate their warheads wisely, especially if they don't want to sentpd fallout into their rivers, cities, over the border, or potentially trigger a war by making people think a first strike had occurred.

It is more about brag of doing so. And then it will not have to be a big one, a very small one it will do the trick (in an military shooting range ),it might be possible to get a way with out detonation one,but you must let them know that you have one
Another possibility is to detonate one in space if you have the capability of lunching one
And yes land it will be an issue

And yes it is a very risky undertaking but it might be the only chance, other then a Vietnam like scenario.

Speaking of which, perhaps a thread could be done on Vietnam trying to get The Bomb? Neighbors like Mao and Pol Pot can cause some to worry.

The only chance for what? Aggravating the Soviets into a full-scale invasion? If it's a small bomb, it's useless for any strategic purpose (frankly I think most of Moscow could survive a hit from a Hiroshima-type bomb, leaving aside that the bomber would either be a highly inaccurate missile or a bomber rather easily shot down en route). If it's a tactical bomb, then all it will do is block a single invasion route--and it's not like Eastern Europe lacks for places to invade.

Hmm... Wildly speculating here, what if another nation like (say) China gives them nuclear weapons? Or, if it'd be too hard to physically transport them from China, what about France or Britain?

No way. That means, Soviets giving nuke to North Ireland's' separatist organization. Giving Nuke to Tibet and Vietnam and even Taiwan. Or maybe some African and Middle East country too. There is no way Great powers giving nuke to some third parties. That is out of question.
