Eric Flint has died

Today it was announced that Eric Flint, author of the 1632 series, died at the age of 75. His impact on the alternate history genre was immense.

There is a gofundme to help his wife with memorial expenses; I have already chipped in some.

Holy shit. I mean, Eric Flint, with the Baen Free Library, the Salvos against Big Brother, his solid left wing SF, 1632 - I haven't read much of him but I'll miss him

There goes a legend.

I can honestly say without 1632, I wouldn't be as into AH as I am. Man wrote solid works, and whenever I saw a book that was him and David Weber working together, I know I'm in for a good time (Weber is good at worlds, Flint at characters, both are weak in the other's strengths imo)

RIP.

Agreed entirely. It was thanks to Flint I got into ASB AH at all.

RIP to a great man.

I hope he's in socialist Valhalla with Gretchen Richter leading the cause under the banner of communist McDonald's. I think he'd like that.

Genuinely sad news. I hope he rests in peace.

It's doubly sad as a sequel to his excellent Rivers of War series was just announced as they were re-printing the originals. Truly one of the most unique works of alternate history out there.

Wow. I am surprised. The photos I saw of him had him with such a full head of brown hair. I must have started reading his books much longer ago than I thought. He will be missed.
