Enguerrand de Coucy has an male heir?

What if Enguerrand VII had a son, either with his first wife Isabella of England or his second wife, Isabelle of Lorraine? I think it would be more interesting to have a Coucy who was a grandson of Edward III. He did in fact have a bastard son. What would the effects of a surviving Coucy lordship in Picardy?

Yes I agree. they could switch loyalties like the Grailly, Burgundians or Albret. This could deliver a large part of northern France to the English. They could later switch sides again even.

If he had had sons by his English wife, then they could figure into the Wars of the Roses..

To be honest, it's impossible to say. My personal feeling is that he would remain loyal to the crown, like most of the French lords. But since the lands ended up as part of the French royal estate, how much of a change would there really be anyway?

Well which side would they take in this alternate War of the Roses? And how would they act in the Hundred Years War?

Well, if they're loyal to France (as seems the most obvious option) they could be promoted by the French Kings as rivals to the Plantagenets. Perhaps even the French could prmote them as Dukes of Aquitaine or Normandy, in opposition to the English, as a means of legalizing land-grabs etc. Then when it comes to making peace the Coucys give up their claims to England and the Plantagenets to the French domains.

Plus, the Coucys might enjoy special rank of princes étranger at the French court.
