While doing my revision for my History A level exam (For next Monday so wish me luck!) I came across a section that got me thinking. The section is basically talking about the marriage treaty between Mary I of England and Phillip of Spain with a bit saying
"The heir of Mary and Phillip would inherit the Netherlands as well as England and this offered the Possibility of England Establishing a secure and substantial empire on the Continent."
If we go with that Mary and Phillip did have an heir, and for the sake of argument a son, how would England establishing a foothold on the Continent effect the world.
I would have thought that this more land would bring in more finances for the English crown, for example more taxes and trade. Would that have effected the ability of England growing a larger empire in the New World to start of with due to a larger money and possibly support from the Spanish.
Thanks, any replies or criticisms to my idea will be most welcome
