English Bordeaux

English rule ended in 1453. Could it have lasted longer? The English were generally popular there, mainly because of economic ties involving the wine trade.

Or simply after the 1363 Treaty end it as originally proposed. Edward III was going to renounce his claims to the French throne and the rival faction were going to recognise Aquitania as fully independent, which would have removed the main source of tension between the two powers. Instead Edward got a bit too greedy and kept upping the anti.

So will this treaty be as lasting as the one that recognized Henry V as the next King of France?

Matthais Corvinus

Does any treaty last? However it has more chance than most at the time as it gets rid of the main complication of the entwined claims that caused so much of the problems.

What I was pointing out was that the treaty would be disregarded in no time at all. Once the English lack the strength to hold Aquitaine it will fall to the French, and they will tear the treaty up.

The Anglo-Portuguese Treaty of Friendship and Mutual Cooperation does.

Who says their going to lack the strength in the near future? Plus with a clear separation from France it would strengthen the already significant identity of the region. Especially if the French kingdom is diverted by internal conflict as might well be the case.
