Emperor Go-Daigo defeats Komyo and Ashikaga

What if, during the Nanboku-cho period, the South Court, ruled by Japanese Emperor Go-Daigo, managed to defeat the North Court led by Emperor Komyo and the Ashikaga Shogunate? Could the imperial restoration that he began have continued, and perhaps resulted in an early centralization of the Japanese nation?

I think the best strategy to help Go-Daigo is to avoid the Northern and Southern Courts period in the first place. By the time Go-Daigo fled to Yoshino, the Ashikaga controlled Kyoto, hold a larger territory, and have a pliable Emperor. It would be much easier to have Go-Daigo, or more realistically his retainers, defeat or destroy Ashikaga right after he destroys the Hojo instead. After all, the Ashikaga had been rebels and very close to the Hojo, so there are reasons for Go-Daigo to turn on them first.
