Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon marries David not Albert

so I was reading about Wallis Simpson, it put forth the idea that Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was in fact at first in love with The Prince of Wales (Edward VIII) rather than the Duke of York (George VI) and settled for The Prince Albert after David made it clear he wasn't going to marry her, thus she wasn't able to put her anger over the abdication crisis at Edward VIII so had to aim it at the women that got her first great love

I don't really believe that idea, but what if it were A) true and B) David married Elizabeth in 1921.

My reading is that it was just a case of the tabloids guessing the wrong prince- they weren't onto anything.

A) Technically, she was the problem, not Edward. If he hadn't met her then there would be no choice but to accept him as King. The opt-out option is too dangerous a precedent, because it means that the whim of public opinion vis-a-vis character determines the next monarch.

B) She can probably mold him quite well, not as well as Dudley Ward but pretty close. If this happens then there will be no controversy when he acceeds to the throne, enjoying a long and quite happy reign.
