First, a short list of our American Presidents:

Benedict Arnold (No Party) 1787-1797
Alexander Hamilton (F) 1797-1801
John Adams (F) 1801-1809
Timothy Pickering (F) 1809-1817
John Quincy Adams (F) 1817-1825
William Crawford (R) 1825-1829
Stephen Decatur (R) 1829-1831
Martin Van Buren (R) 1831-

The year is 1832. The current President is Martin Van Buren. President Decatur was untimely shot and his wound festered too greatly to cause his death in 1831. After the Constitutional Crisis, Van Buren ascended to the Presidency and assumed all its powers. He was inaugurated and took the White House in mid-summer.

His short term has been marked with an increase in sectional tension due to his abolitionist views. However, there was one bright light for Van Buren's southern dissenters: his war on the bank.

Van Buren has the reputation of being the Republican Party's mastermind. He worked both Crawford's and Decatur's elections to disavow the Federalist Party. However, he's vastly losing southern support.

To counteract his abolitionism, there is one bright spot in the road: the Federalist Party's candidate. Despite a long history of hating the Federalists, they've come back with a vengeance. Their candidate is the National Bank's biggest supporter, and a man who views slavery as nothing more than a necessary evil: Nicholas Biddle.
