Eleanor of Aquitaine

She dies on the crusade that she went on with her first husband. This means that she is not available to marry Henry II of England. Any other consequences?

Eleanor's younger sister Petronilla/Alix was married to count Raoul I of Vermandois (Capetian house of Vermandois), so they will have the best claim to the duchy.

Another candidate might be a descendant from Raymond of Poitiers (prince of Antioch).

Who would inherit the French territories?
Louis VII and Eleanor had two daughters OTL. The eldest of these daughters, Marie, was born in April 1145. Eleanor dying on crusade would thus not prevent the birth of the little Princess Marie.

Marie would most likely be Eleanor's heiress in this scenario. That said, the young French princess would be extremly young (2 or 3 years old), so there is room for contestation/opposition.

They could make a bid for the Duchy but that depends on their relationship with Louis VII. Raould of Vermandois being a Capetian, he might not have much trouble having the daughter of his cousin the King of France becoming Duchess of Aquitaine.

Louis VII will also now have the option of dividing up the Duchy among the available heirs since I doubt he'd want to promote the power of any of his nobles

The obvious solution would be to mary Marie of France to her cousin Ralph of Vermandois (Petronilla's only son) - with both succeeding to Eleanor's inheritance (in otl Ralph died in his early twenties - but they are pretty much of an age)
