Eleanor, Fair Maid of Brittany a maid no more

Eleanor of Brittany was an heiress to England, Anjou, Brittany, and Aquitaine and her claim to these were better than that of her uncle, John of England. However, she was imprisoned from 1202.

In 1195, there was a match proposed between Louis VIII of France but the proposal failed due to objections from the Holy Roman Emperor.

What if this marriage had gone ahead? What are the implications and what happens when Louis invades England in 1216?

The main reason she did not marry earlier than 1202 is because Philippe Auguste objected to her other possible matches like Eudes of Burgundy, she could be married off as a wife of Henry VI, the Holy Roman Emperor if he lives longer or as a replacement wife for Conrad of Swabia..

Her sister Mathilde would have married in 1202 if she survived because she has less prestige than Eleanor..
