El Trato – A Philippine Alternatehistory

I

When Miguel Lopez de Legazpi came to Manila Bay in May 1571, Lakandula was there to meet him. The two first met on May 17, the day after Legazpi's arrival on the bay, when Lakandula and Rajah Matanda came aboard Legazpi's ship to discuss terms with him. Part of these discussions specified that the Spanish would not land in Tondo, and would instead land in Maynila, which had been burned to the ground the year before.

Legazpi demanded to Rajah Matanda and Lakandula to give up the suzerainty of their lands to the Spanish completely something that Tupas had did earlier, rather than make.

Legazpi chose not to regard the proposal of Lakandula since he wanted both Tondo and Manila as his harbors and as well he wanted the ancestral lands of Lakandula in Batangas and also the fact that Sulayman is the King of Tondo and Manila not Lakandula, Lakandula would be remembered as a footnote in history.

Legazpi would deal with the other claimant of the Kingdom of Tondo, the King of Namayan, Titular King of Tondo, the King Selurong and Kaboloan and also contact Sulayman to cut a deal regarding Maynila.

In the treaty or deal of the King of Kaboloan, Namayan, Selurong and titular king of Tondo they would accept a deal or treaty of peace with the Spanish in exchange of acceptance of Trade and Missions of the Spanish in their area, they would cede their claims and control of Tondo and Namayan to the Spanish, this would give the Spanish a claim to Tondo and the control of Namayan, this would help the King of Kaboloan and Selurong against the threat of Soliman and Lakandula, in this case the Province of Namayan was ceded completely.

The treaty with the King of Selurong and Kaboloan would be known as the Treaty of Namayan or known as the Treaty or El Trato.

Apparently Legazpi already knew that the area in the North of the Maynila bay is a barren land and making it a vassal like they did to Ternate is the best way to deal with them.

Note: I used an ambiguous language here because it is not known in OTL who ruled the Kingdom at that time.
