Eisenhower dies 1955; Nixon is President

He'd be president in time for the Hungarian Revolution, the Cuban Revolution and the Suez Crisis. He was a more of a Machiavellian than Eisenhower and would probably be more aggressive.

I admit I don't know much about the domestic politics of the time and I really only understand the basics of most of that era. It just popped into my head and I'd like to see what more knowledgable people would think.

We've done it a couple times. For starters, there's no particular reason why Nixon would win the '56 election. He might not exploit the Suez Canal situation for domestic gain as Eisenhower did, and of course Eisenhower was far more popular than Nixon.

Institutional Memory:

I presume that Nixon would win in 1956. I suspect that there is a sympathy element for a party who's President dies.

1960 is more interesting. There is an advantage in incumbency but if I recall there was some kind of mild recession in the late 50s. Nixon would get the blame for that.

What would Nixon do about Little Rock?

If he won in 1960, I think that he would cock up Cuba worse than in OTL.

Either he would make Cuba an early 'Vietnam' or he would end up causing WW3
