Eisenhower and MacArthur Swap Commands

Using whatever PoDs are necessary, have MacArthur become Supreme Commander of Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe while Eisenhower becomes commander of U.S. Army Forces in the Far East.

How different do the two WWII Theaters unfold with the commanders swapped compared to OTL?
What about postwar developments?

Well I imagine that the SW Pacific would be run more efficiently. Can’t imagine Ike putting up with the “Bataan Gang.” Perhaps the Australians get more of a part in rolling back the Japanese and not wasting lives, resources and treasure on dead end campaigns. For MacArthur in Europe it would be interesting (in a Chinese curse sort of way). I can imagine that he would rub more people the wrong way with his monstrous ego. Imagine Monty and Patton and MacArthur all in the same theater .... shudder. If MacArthur is as poorly served with senior staff as he was in the SWPac then the Heer will make them pay dearly until they learn. Perhaps if the British get upset enough they would push very hard for Monty to become Land Commander.

Honestly, if Mac has done poorly enough to be pulled out of the Pacific.... I don't see him getting the European command. Or another command at all save *maybe* an inventory of the strategic Aleutian Islands Penguin Reserve... It's far more likely he gets pushed into retirement though... or simply left to rot and does one good thing in his life and puts a bullet in his head before risking the Japanese learning about Magic...

If Mac Arthur was the only choice to be commander in Europe because Ike was sent to command in the South Pacific, then perhaps that would make FDR choose to allow Marshall to take command in Europe which was what Marshall had originally planned before FDR nixed it. "Couldn't sleep at night knowing my best soldier was not here with me." (Not sure those were the exact words.). Other than Ike, who could handle all the egos in Europe? Marshall commanded that kind of respect and authority.
