Einstein as President of Israel

Israel didn't exactly start that war.

It's pretty clearly not Israel that started the war, actually.

Before May 15, 1948, there was a civil war in the Mandate of Palestine. Saying who started that war is essentially impossible (well, I have my opinions, but I don't think those need to be shared right now). On May 15, 1948, this would have become a war between two nascent nations if the other Arab states hadn't invaded. While Egypt and Iraq actually did invade to help their Arab brothers, Jordan and Syria were basically making a naked land grab (it's actually especially clear that this is the case for Jordan, who had their army advance to a certain boundary, and then stop, holding that boundary).

I wasn't trying to imply Israel would start anything, just that the presence of several anti-Zionist countries right there made conflict a possibility, which I felt the man would try to avoid.

I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about, so I'll shut up.
