Egyptian Epos; World War 2 TL

Warning! Some information can be not exactly true as they are. In TL I will include newspapers from various countries and it may contain propaganda headlines.

New York Times; 14 November 1942
"The Auk"* defeated in Second battle of El Alamein, Rommel seized Alexandria, German 90th Light Afrika Division began march on Port Said.

The Daily Telegraph; 19 November 1942
Generalmajor Ernst Strecker seized Port Said and repelled British counterattack, Cairo fell into Italo-German forces.

Pravda; 23 November 1942
British senior officer executed by Nazis in Africa!
British General Claude Auchinleck was taken as Prisoner of War after battle of El Alamein and executed personally by Erwin Rommel!
We must repell these barbarians from Motherland!

*Bernard Montgomery nor Harold Alexander didn't replaced Auk as commander of Eighth Army because they did not arrived in time for second battle of El Alamein.

How shall we put this?
Alemein was a perfect defensive position, barring some (almost-ASB level) total catastrophe and idiocy a loss of 2nd Alemein will see the British return to the defensive and hold the line well enough. You want the Germans to bust through? Best you put things back to the retreat from Gazala and have the Germans push on before the British can re-consolidate... even then you'll need a superb run of luck and hope like hell the Afrika Korp's shoe-string logistics somehow keeps up with the advance.

Not sure if it's intended to be inaccurate propaganda or not, but the laws of war were generally obeyed by the Germans when fighting the British and Americans... execution of a high ranking officer is highly unlikely.

Execution of PoWs not really suits even for Nazis. Rommel was old fashioned officer and he never executed PoWs. He even didn't executed British commandos despite order by Hitler. During WW2 Germans perhaps executed Russian prisoners but rarely Wallies prisoners.

Who said that there was execution? Soviet newspaper Pravda that was antifascist (due to communism in Russia) and could print not exactly true information. It is clear that he was taken as PoW.

My PoD is victory on Alam el Haifa after which British forces were seriously weakened. During Second battle of El Alamein Rommel attacked from West and South and after bitter fighting won (and conquered northern Egyptian coast but was stuck later due to heavy losses)

Remember the Commando Order. Hitler ordered that all Allied forces caught by German should be shot without trial. And this was in effect since 1942. As for the Russians, the Waffen-SS AND the Wehrmacht were ordered to kill them from the start. Hitler despised communism and Slavs in general.

Remember that we don't know if he was killed. We only have information in communist newspaper. They probably know about this order so they think that he was killed and wrote about it.
