Egypt survives, good writing doesn't.

This, which is outlandish if you really think about it.

And this, just wow. Otto von Bismark...the terrorist!

As for the writing, well, I'm guessing its a consequence of self-publishing. Wait, isn't Tor books the publishing company that also publishes novels by Harry Turtledove?

It looks like a case of capitalizing on the average reader wanting to read something that's both familiar and different.

Now now, Bismarck isn't strictly a terrorist. He's working for Her Majesty Queen Victoria of Oesterreich in conjunction with Tawantinsuyu to stop Egypt from gaining hegemony and spreading the cultural works of Spanish surrealism, Antoni Gaudi, and Verdi around the world.

Yes, all these things are in the sample from Amazon... yeah this book is not good.

It's real easy to criticize...

Yes, and sometimes things deserve criticizing.

Well, I imagine a lot of people here would buy the book, read it and then post all of their complaints. Of course by doing that, the author still gets the royalties.

Hah! Library book _maybe_ (not entirely sure I could make it through several hundred pages of such deathless prose): sure as hell not going to spend my limited dollars.

As long as its useful criticism. "This is stupid' or 'ASB' doesn't exactly help anyone. It need to be something that can add to/improve. And don't go preaching about butterflies, because some authors simply won't care.

Hey, I mostly hate the writing. :)

Anyway, we like to complain: this is for our fun. Don't go all reverse-snob on us.

"...Soon as we find that German terrorist that's makin' such a fuss,
We gotta whack Herr Bismarck 'cause the world depends on us..."

"And if our bullets aimed at Biz don't sting,
we can turn to our buddies, the Chinese Ming!"

(It was the best erm worst I could come up with.)

I saw the book at Barnes & Nobles the other day and sat down and started reading it. It wasn't particularly good, but it wasn't absolutely awful. I proceeded to put it back on the shelf and instead bought "Dangerous Women", so that I could read "The Princess and the Queen".
