Egypt conquers Ethiopia

Under the Khedive, Egypt desired total control of the Nile and the Blue Nile in particular. To this end, Egypt went to war with Ethiopia in 1874-1876 but was ultimately repelled.

What if Egypt had conquered Ethiopia?

It might be possible that Egypt conquers most of Ethiopia but not Addis Ababa. The goal was control of the Blue Nile, so an Addis Ababa-based rump might be able to hold out.

They would only need to control the Blue Nile, Lake Tana and its sources ( the Lesser Abay, Reb and Gumara rivers and the sources of those rivers), so they would not need to control most of present day Ethiopia

it would certainly help form a new dynamic in the horn. what future effects i don't think i could predict i guess the brits would be happy too see a larger empire brought into their domain. however, this could lead to a much stronger Egypt so we might not even see a British Egypt. if we do then i will see a lot of backlash to to taking such a large area so they might end up sharing it
