Egypt- a nuclear power

I am thinking about the possibility that Egypt never signed the 1979 peace treaty with Israel, and went the nuclear path in the 1980s as a response to Israel becoming a nuclear power. How would it change geo- politics to have Israel and Egypt directing nukes at each other.

Especially if the Egyptians don't sign a peace treaty with Israel, the Israeli's aren't going to allow Egypt to have nukes.
Just like they bombed the Iraqi nuclear reactor in 1981, they'll do the same to the Egyptians before they can get nukes.

I doubt the Egyptians could present the world (and the Israeli's) with a fait accompli; the Western/Israeli intelligence is probably too good for that and the Egyptian economy/infrastructure small enough to ensure it would take years and years before they have anything usefull.

If the Egyptians somehow manage to acquire nuclear weapons, the Saoedi's and the Libyans will want the same.

I agree; without stating a desire for peace (i.e. recognition of Israel) and closer alignment with the West, any Egyptian nuclear programme would've resulted in a necessary, although illegal, pre-emptive action by the Israeli air force.
