Hello, I'm sorry if this has been discussed anywhere before, but I can not seem to find a thread on this subject so I've decided to start one.
There seems to be plenty of timeline attempts and explorations of surviving new world cultures, non of them seem to fully explore the effects of such cultures in the contempory world. I'd be interested to see what people think our world would be like if instead of an essentially Europe 2.0 we had a culturally distinct and separate Americas, and all the impacts that follow such a difference, agricultural, artistic, philosophic, technological, etc. Essentially how different and similar our world consciousness and understanding could be.
For a bit of grounding let's suppose that the eastern agricultural complex is a little more developed (in terms of genetic evolution of crops), and that via some space bats the llama, guinea pig, and potato have reached Mexico and further north. Throw in a slower less Spanish discovery of the new world, with less conquest, and more trade (but still the sugar plantations), and a Europe that still industrialised first and ends up mucking up every one else for a while. The plagues still do a duster on the native peoples, but that it's the least worst scenario, so while there are still European settlers here and there where they are it's all a lot more mestizo in general.
I'd like to think one big difference is that the native cultures would have evolved, and today it would be no different to see a 'amerindian' or maybe let's call them 'Antillians' people anywhere in the world, touristing, and working in business in suits etc then anyone else.
There's probably more I could write, but I'll give it over to you far more knowledgable people to discuss.
