Effects Of No Vietnam

For the sake of arguement, lets say that Vietnam is handwaved away. For whatever reason, the clashes between the two nations never really amount to anything, the South has better leadership, and eventually there is a detente in the '90s or so. What would the effects be on politics and culure in the rest of the world? LBJ wouldprobably do a lot better, but what would the long run effects be?

If theres enough interezst, I might make this in to a TL.

America remains interested in proxy wars and counter-insurgency. Perhaps with dire consequences somewhere else in Asia? Or leading to an incident at sea off Angola that sparks a general war?

Almost too many possibilities to deal with.

I've actually done a few threads on this matter.

Don't forget Korea; the quagmire bogeyman everyone pointed to before Vietnam. In fact, many of those who feared getting into Vietnam used the remark "It could be another Korea" as their selling point. Korea seemed to drag on, and cost Truman popularity, and I believe it played a role in stagnating the economy back home so that didn't help matters. So the US had already gotten burnt as it were.

Vietnam was among a list of little nations we could have gone after in "another Korea" kind of proxy war. There's Cuba, I believe the Dominican Republic, etc. But nothing really destines the US to get into any of them as an Americanized war. So the idea that without Vietnam, the US would have done it somewhere else is not more than a possibility.
